Learn how to see the light with professional photography education

Why Your Portrait Photography Isn't Turning Out the Way You Pictured It

Photography and lighting education in Annandale

You’ve watched the tutorials, bought the gear, and started setting up your space. Yet, for some reason, the photos still don’t look like the shot in your head. That’s not a talent problem; instead, it’s a light problem. Most photographers were never taught to actually see light: where it falls, how it bends, what it’s doing to a face before you ever press the shutter.

I reverse-engineer the light in portraits I love, then teach you to rebuild it in a spare bedroom, a garage, or a corner of your living room. No studio or extra gear required.

Just a new way of seeing that changes everything you shoot next.

Meet Jordan Berg, Photography Educator and Lighting Coach

Professional Photographer, Unprofessional Dad, and Teacher

From a young age, I’ve been captivated by the stories behind every moment and adventure, especially those shared with family. Today, that same wonder fuels my work as a photographer, artist, and teacher. I spent years chasing the same thing every photographer chases: that portrait that stops people mid-scroll. What I found wasn’t a secret lens or a better camera. It was light, and learning to actually see it.

I trained under award-winning photographers and studied at the New York Institute of Photography. I’m also a proud member of the American Society of Media Photographers and the American Photographic Artists. But the thing that changed my work most was teaching myself to reverse-engineer light from photos I admired, then rebuilding it in spaces no bigger than a closet.

Through my passion and deep understanding of lighting, state-of-the-art digital techniques, and storytelling, I now collaborate with photographers the same way I once collaborated with clients: blending technical skill with creative vision to help them build something that’s truly their own.

I look forward to meeting you.

THOUGHTS FROM CLIENTS

Every image we create begins with trust and ends with something one-of-a-kind. See what our clients have to say about their experience behind the lens at Photoberg.

Watch as Light Turns Into Art

It starts with one photo you can’t stop looking at. Break it down, learn what’s actually happening in the light, then watch your own work catch up to it. These are real before-and-afters from students who stopped guessing and started seeing: same rooms, same gear, a completely different eye behind the camera.

What’s the photo you wish you’d taken?

How Photography Lighting Coaching Works, Step by Step

Here’s how the process works, step by step, whether you’re taking a course or working with me directly:

01. Start With a Photo

Bring me a portrait that stops you, one you wish you’d taken. We’ll break down exactly what’s happening with the light.

02. Breakdown the Image

I’ll walk you through reverse-engineering the setup: key light, fill, shadow, direction, background. Nothing is missed so you can see the result yourself.

03. Rebuild In Your Space

You’ll recreate that same look with your own gear, in your own space, proving to yourself it was never about the equipment.

04. Master the Shoot

From here on, you’re not guessing at light and positioning. You’re reading it, in any room, on any shoot, for the rest of your career.
